Take Over Their Fax Day
Tuesday, April 9, 2002

Background - Community-based services for senior citizens have stayed relatively flat for 13 years!

• This is not because they aren't cost effective
  
• This is not because they aren't important
  
• This is not because they don't make sense
  
• This is not because seniors don't want to stay at home

EPIC - Language in the Governor's 30-day amendments would allow them, in the event they receive additional federal money for prescriptions, to take money out of EPIC and use it for other purposes. This money must stay in aging - for lower EPIC costs, to finance community services, for raises for aging services.

COLA - Community-based senior service providers need a raise too, we need to be included in the "Global COLA Package"

It is simply because we have not exercised our political power.

In other words - they know there are NO consequences for not funding them!

Let's start changing their minds by shutting down their faxes and phone lines for one day.

The Message:

1. Governor Pataki, Majority Leader Bruno, Speaker Silver - We support increased funding in NYSOFA programs. Thirteen years of basically flat funding is not acceptable.
2. We want EPIC money to stay in aging programs.
3. Include community-based senior providers in the Global COLA Package
